This week we were experimenting with external camera flashes and figuring out how to get different lighting effects.

External Flash (Studio Photography 14.02.22)
I got this lighting effect by pointing the flash right to the ceiling. The lighting is nice and even over the entire photograph
I took this one by pointing the flash at myself. Some light bounced back but the photo is still pretty dark.
I got this photo by pointing the flash to the right, away from Darja. It gives the impression that she's standing next to a window, when in reality it's just light from the flash.
This was probably the most difficult photo to take. We had to get a photo with a hard shadow behind the subject. We were struggling for ages to get the right effect, we finally got it when we turned the camera upside down with the flash pointing up towards the subject!
Overall, I've learned a lot from today's lab and I'm excited to work with it more in the future!

Select and Mask (Image Production 07.02.22)
This week for our image production class, we were working with layer masks.
This was the first picture we used to try out the "select and mask" feature. I found it a bit finicky but eventually got the hang of it.
We had to use the same technique for this image, the model was originally in front of a white background, sitting on a chair. I managed to understand the select and mask feature better while making this image.
Selection tools (Image Production 31.1.22)
This week for our image production lab, we had to create a few post cards and recreate an advert.
This was the first postcard I made. I found the process relatively easy since we had clear instructions to follow.
This was the advert I made, recreating a sample that was given to us. The dimensions of the background image were off, I didn't know how to properly stretch the image so I just did the ad the best I could. I'm happy with how it turned out.
This is the postcard we had to create on our own. I liked being able to play around and make something by myself, however I found the images difficult to work with due to their low quality. I have also included my layers to show how my work is stacked.

Using the built in flash (Studio Photography 07.02.22)
This week, we used our lab time to understand how the built in flash on our cameras work in dark areas, light areas and outside.
This image was a result of both me and oliwia taking a picture at the same time. I think we managed to get really even lighting on Darja, I really like the outcome, even if it was accidental!
We were taking pictures in the hallway and I noticed that the wall closest to me had been lit up by the flash, giving more even lighting to the image. I found the difference the flash made to my indoor pictures really interesting.
This was me trying to imitate fashion photography. I wasn't able to lean down far enough to actually look through the viewfinder, that's why Darja's head is cut off. I thought the fall off in light the further away Darja's body was was interesting, her legs are more lit up than her shoulders.
One of our tasks was to take a photo of someone infront of a window. I found it really easy to get good lighting for this thanks to the flash, however the exposure on the buildings outside could probably be a little bit better.
